A short biography of Sydney P Smith
Sydney Peter Smith obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology for Hull University in Yorkshire, England. He was born and grew up in London. He was awarded his Juris doctorate degree from The Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America. He graduated in the upper fifteen percent of his law school class. He graduated law school in 1991.
Mr. Smith started practicing law as an Assistant Public Defender as an Assistant to the elected Public Defender for Dade County, the Honorable Bennet H. Brummer. He spent six years in that office and in that time represented literally thousands of defendants and actually tried in front of juries cases from Driving Under the Influence to first degree murder charges.

Mr. Smith has been in private practice as a criminal defense attorney and has devoted his practice exclusively to criminal defense since leaving the Public Defender's Office. Some of the cases he has defended involved allegations of capital sex crimes, home invasion burglaries, armed robbery, drug trafficking, stalking, aggravated battery, capital homicide, Medicaid fraud, real estate fraud, drug smuggling and white collar crime.
In private practice since leaving Mr. Brummer's office he has specialized in criminal defense at both the trial and appeal levels. He has tried cases in Federal and State courts and has argued in front of the Third District Court of Appeals and in the Federal Appeals Court in Atlanta Georgia.
