There are many diverse areas of the law and it is common for attorneys to specialize in particular types of practice. Mr. Smith has been in private practice as a criminal defense attorney and has devoted his practice exclusively to criminal defense since leaving the Public Defender's Office.

Some of the cases he has defended involved allegations of capital sex crimes, home invasion burglaries, armed robbery, drug trafficking, stalking, aggravated battery, capital homicide, Medicaid fraud, real estate fraud, drug smuggling and white collar crime.

In private practice since leaving Mr. Brummer's office he has specialized in criminal defense at both the trial and appeal levels. He has tried cases in Federal and State courts and has argued in front of the Third District Court of Appeals and in the Federal Appeals Court in Atlanta Georgia.
